WASHINGTON — Members of the UN Security Council have informally begun discussions on the possibility of issuing a statement on the current situation in Burma, especially the ongoing trial of Aung San Suu Kyi, following an initiative by the United States, France and Britain.
Have informally, on the possibility of issuing a statement, brother can they be more decisive!!! As if that isn’t enough how about this:
However, because of resistance by China and Russia—two veto-wielding members—the 15-member UN body is not expected to be able to make much headway.
So then I ask myself what good are they?
They will probably spend months if not years trying to come up with something to say that will be of no effect on the Myanmar government and in the meanwhile they will be spending thousands of taxpayer dollars in the process. In the meanwhile Aung San Suu Kyi languishes in the Insein Prison, in poor health.
Come on People!! We all know that the UN is about as effective as a virgin female cop trying to make an arrest in the middle of a Hells Angels gang in the Mojave Desert!!! Here take a look at their track record Here.
There was one comment in The Irrawady that was certainly a lot more pro-active and to the point and puts the issue where it belongs, in the hands of the People! Here is an excerpt of that comment:

The lesson staring in our face is without a doubt self-reliance. You can talk until you go blue in the face, issue statements and ritual condemnations until the cows come home. That’s exactly what the NLD’s been doing all these years, going round and round in circles.
A common program for effective mass action and preparedness for another crackdown, seizing the initiative and organization to counter, must have top priority—building up people power cells, bases and networks, communications and logistics, plans for withdrawal and regrouping, medical stations, safe houses, material resources including rations, fuel, medical supplies and even arms caches, above all political work on the army personnel to secure a fighting chance.
Maybe the time has come to disband the prehistoric UN and come up with an organization more in tune with the modern times that can’t be influenced by foreign merchants or government pockets.
In the mean time, What is to Become of Aung San Suu Kyi?
